Ancient treatment boosts your chance of conceiving

This week, MSNBC posted an article about utilizing acupuncture to support fertility.

"After undergoing six grueling fertility treatments, five of which failed, singer Celine Dion recently announced that she and her husband are now expecting twins.

She credits acupuncture with making the difference in her sixth IVF attempt and her statement is sure to raise interest in acupuncture among couples trying to conceive. But exactly how does it work, and is it for you?

In 2008 a scientific review of seven independent studies on acupuncture showed that overall, women who got the treatment were 65% more successful in getting pregnant than women who didn’t get acupuncture."

The article discusses how the insertion of needles at key points increases the flow of qi and blood, resulting in healthier eggs, more blood flow to the uterus and healthier sperm in men.

Military tries acupuncture to treat troops for PTSD

At Health On Point, I too often see soldiers who feel they have been 'stuck' in the system. On finding our clinic, these men and women finally receive the support and care they need for both physical and emotional distress.

New approach making inroads in Western medicine.
Tony Bailes of Austin was in the Army in 2003 when he injured his back in Iraq and tried everything his doctor recommended. Nothing helped. Then, the pain specialist prescribed acupuncture, and two weeks later, "my back pain was gone," he said.

This is from a June 21st article in an Austin paper, the Statesman, discussing the use of acupuncture for military members. With complaints ranging from back pain or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), those in the field agree that acupuncture is enhancing Western medicine.

"The military acknowledged we were not adequately meeting the needs of the soldiers in terms of PTSD treatment, and we started exploring different treatment options that weren't our previous first-line treatments," Earthman said. "They have ramped up their efforts to better treat PTSD."

Improved exercise tolerance

A study from the University of Heidelberg in Germany has shown that acupuncture can improve exercise tolerance for people with congestive heart failure. The abstract for "Acupuncture improves exercise tolerance of patients with heart failure: a placebo-controlled pilot study" is available online. The Chicago Examiner also highlights this paper in their article here. More importantly, you can learn more about how I integrate Acupuncture and Oriental medicine with Western medicine to improve health outcomes.
